Based on the Indiana Program Standards for School Counseling, the Gold Star designation gives you confidence that your program aligns with the Indiana program standards for school counseling and identifies your school as having a state-recognized school counseling program. |

HOW TO APPLY: Schools interested in seeking the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Program recognition should submit a portfolio to the Indiana Department of Education prior to June 1, 2004 along with a Gold Star Portfolio Cover Sheet. The portfolio should follow the 2003-2004 Gold Star Portfolio Guidelines. Program Standard Resources are also available to help you implement each of the program standards.
PORTFOLIO FORMAT: Using the 2003-2004 Gold Star Portfolio Guidelines, schools will create a portfolio by placing exhibitions behind nine tabs representing the nine Program Standards for School Counseling: Tab 1: Program Foundations Tab 2: Data-Based Accountability Tab 3: Student Guidance Tab 4: Student Counseling Tab 5: Student Advocacy Tab 6: Program Management Tab 7: Professionalism Tab 8: Resources Tab 9: School Counseling Improvement Plan
PORTFOLIO REVIEW: Gold Star portfolios will be reviewed once a year. All portfolios are reviewed and judged by a panel of trained school counseling professionals using the Gold Star Portfolio Rubric. Designation is valid for three years.
BENEFITS: Your recognized school counseling program provides sound guidance, counseling, and student advocacy for your community's young people. In addition, when your program receives "Gold Star" status, you will receive: a. Use of the "Gold Star" logo for your letterhead, business cards, Website, and other print materials. b. Multiple certificates suitable for display on each of your office walls or in the school's trophy case. c. A template press release for you to individualize and send to local press. d. Recognition at the Indiana School Counselor Association Conference. e. Recognition in the Indiana School Counselor Association newsletter (School Counselor) f. Recognition in the Indiana Association of School Principal Association Newsletter (Indianagram).
