and Are Willing to Answer Questions

The comprehensive guidance portfolio helps students document the following areas and use the information to help make decisions about their future:

1.    GUIDANCE:  This section includes documentation of knowledge gained through various academic and career exploration activities such as a learning styles assessment, campus visit questionnaire, career interest inventory, job shadowing questionnaire, etc.

2.    BEST WORK:  This section includes samples of the student's best work in each of the academic areas including English, math, social studies, science, foreign language, fine arts, and career exploration.  This section could also include samples of student work from activities outside of school such as an Eagle Scout project.  Each sample of student work is accompanied by a student-reflection regarding the work.

3.    RECORDS / RECOGNITION:  Copies of academic records are found in this section including report cards, progress reports, and standardized test report.  Student may also include recognition for their achievement such as honor roll designations, academic awards, etc.

4.    PLANNING:  This section of the portfolio includes long term and short term plans including plans for the student's future standard of living, plans for the first year past high school, four-year high school course plan, course selection sheets (used during scheduling), and plans (goals) for the current marking period.

5.    WORKFORCE READINESS:  This section includes documentation of various characteristics linked to successful employment such as self management, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving.

6.    TRANSITION:  This section includes documents completed to help the student make a smooth transition from high school to whatever comes after high school including a resume, extracurricular activity log, postsecondary application, financial aid application, letter of inquiry, etc.
